My thoughts on the Framer 3.0 update

This is Framer's most significant update to date. Agents built natively into the platform, a restructured Community and a reformed template marketplace. The underlying dynamics have shifted.

At its core, this is a realignment of incentives. Economics 101.

The old system worked like a centrally planned economy. Templates went through manual review. A small group decided what got in and what didn't. That works fine at small scale. But as supply grows, central review slows down, becomes inconsistent, or starts filtering on convenience. The gate becomes fuzzy and judgement-based.

What Framer is moving toward is less "we approve this", more "let the market decide". That sounds simple. But it changes everything.

The question is no longer can you get into the marketplace. It becomes can you survive once you're in it.

Three effects follow. More supply, more noise, but not dilution. The floor drops, the ceiling doesn't. Strong work becomes easier to spot, not harder. The bottleneck moves too. Before, the gate was approval. Now it's attention. Distribution matters as much as design. A great template without reach gets buried. A mediocre one with sharp positioning wins. And quietly, creative destruction kicks in. Builders optimised for the old system, knowing how to get featured or how to pass review find those advantages weaken. New entrants will arrive with different instincts. The old playbook stops working.

The role of templates is shifting too. As AI makes products easier to customise, templates become starting points rather than finished products. The value doesn't disappear. It moves.

This isn't about Framer killing or saving the template ecosystem. It's about changing the rules of how value gets discovered. From controlled selection to open competition. From internal judgement to external feedback loops.

Messier in the short run. More honest in the long run. That's usually the trade.

Freelancer websites have a different job. They need to showcase great work, build trust quickly, and guide potential clients to where conversations already happen. Most templates focus on portfolios alone. Solstice was built to help independent creatives turn attention into enquiries, whether that's through Contra, Instagram, email, or wherever you prefer to work.

Who it's for

Freelance designers. Creative developers. Illustrators. Motion designers. Solo studios. If you work independently and want a site that highlights your work while directing clients to your existing channels, Solstice gives you a professional presence without adding complexity.
