How to Build a Website That Sells

Most people think a successful website starts with design.

I don't.

This isn't another article about colors, animations, or the latest UX trends. There won't be any fluff here — just the landing page structure I've used for years because it works.

Everything starts with your target audience. Before writing a headline, you need to know exactly who you're talking to. If your message tries to appeal to everyone, it usually connects with no one.

The next step is your offer. It's the most important part of your website. A good design can't save a weak offer. Visitors should immediately understand what you do, who it's for, and why they should choose you. No offer — no sales.

Now explain the benefits. Tell visitors what you offer, then explain what changes after choosing you. People don't buy services — they buy outcomes.

Once visitors understand your offer, earn their trust. Show the real business behind the website. Use authentic photos, explain your process, display certifications, guarantees, or clear contact information. The less uncertainty visitors feel, the more likely they are to take the next step.

Then reinforce your message with social proof. Reviews, testimonials, case studies, client logos, awards, or measurable results prove your promises.

Finally, lead visitors toward one clear action. A landing page should answer one simple question: What should the visitor do next? Whether it's calling, booking, buying, or requesting a quote, make the next step obvious.

Publishing your landing page isn't the finish line. Drive traffic, watch how visitors behave, improve your offer, and keep refining the page.

A landing page is never truly finished.

That's the structure I keep coming back to, regardless of the business or industry. Every section has its place, and every section has a job to do.

Hi everyone!

A few years ago I started building websites with Carrd.

Forty templates later, I realized something I hadn't thought about when I started.

Building websites and managing a growing template catalog are two completely different challenges.

Carrd was built for the first one.

For the second, I eventually needed a CMS.

That's why the marketplace now runs on Framer.

But every template in it is still built with Carrd.

Businesses don't need beautiful design.

They need design that gets customers.
