Empower Foundation

About Empower Foundation

A content-heavy nonprofit site that stays clear on a phone

Empower Foundation is a nonprofit that helps young people and blue-collar workers in trades like plumbing, driving, mechanics etc. from underserved communities build skills and earn a dignified livelihood.

By their own count they have reached 550,000 people, through job training, support for women entrepreneurs starting businesses, and community health camps.

They needed a website that could show all of this clearly, hold a visitor's attention to the end, work especially well on a phone, and not feel like a usual nonprofit site. We designed and developed just that for them.

Information that's easy to scan

Bento grids break long descriptions of their work into blocks, so each kind of information has its own breathing space and nothing reads as a wall of text.

Content that reads well on a phone

Dense content is hardest to read on a small screen, so the layout and type were built to work especially well on mobile and stay legible.

A clear order of importance

A clear hierarchy puts the key points first and the detail after, so visitors know where to look.

Easy content updates for the team

Several CMS collections make it easy for the team to manage and update their own content.

Easy to move between projects

A sidebar navigation on the project pages lets visitors flip through and jump across a large number of projects with ease.

A look of its own

The design gives the site its own character. So a content-heavy site doesn't feel like a usual website.
